DLSS 3.5 bundles several technologies under one name, and they earn their keep in different places. Knowing which part does what helps you decide when to switch it on and when to leave it off.
Super Resolution and frame generation
Super Resolution renders internally at a lower resolution and reconstructs detail — a near-free performance gain for viewport work. Frame generation inserts additional frames, which feels excellent in real-time previews but adds a frame of latency that matters in interactive manipulation.
Ray reconstruction
Ray reconstruction replaces hand-tuned denoisers with an AI model, cleaning up ray-traced lighting with fewer artifacts. In lookdev and lighting review it is the quiet highlight of the generation: brighter, cleaner previews at usable frame rates.
